An electrocardiogram (EKG) records the electrical activity of your heart in a few minutes without any discomfort. At Clínica Hispana Cruz #3 we perform it walk-in, as part of checkups and medical exams, and the doctor explains the result during the same visit.

How it is done and how long it takes
You lie down, adhesive electrodes are placed on your chest, arms and legs, and the machine records your heart's signal for a few seconds. The whole visit takes about 10 to 15 minutes. It doesn't hurt, uses no radiation and requires no fasting or preparation: you only need to uncover your chest so the electrodes can be placed.
What is an EKG for?
It detects rhythm disturbances (arrhythmias), signs of a previous or ongoing heart attack, heart enlargement from high blood pressure and changes linked to electrolyte or thyroid problems. It is also a routine part of a general checkup in adults with risk factors.
When should you get one?
- If you have palpitations, chest pain or pressure, shortness of breath, dizziness or fainting
- If you live with high blood pressure, diabetes or high cholesterol
- From age 40 as part of a preventive checkup
- Before starting intense exercise or having surgery

Results and next steps
The doctor reviews the tracing during the same visit and explains what it means. If something needs further testing, we guide you and refer you to cardiology. The EKG can be combined with blood tests to complete a heart checkup.
