What do we check at each visit?

Blood pressure, weight and glucose on the spot. Depending on your condition, blood tests: A1C to learn your average sugar over the last 3 months, lipid panel, kidney and liver function. For diabetes we also check your feet and ask about symptoms such as blurred vision, tingling or wounds that are slow to heal.

How often should I come?

  • Diabetes: A1C every 3 months until you reach your goal, then every 6 months
  • High blood pressure: every 1 to 3 months while treatment is adjusted, then every 3 to 6 months
  • Cholesterol: lipid panel every 6 to 12 months, or sooner if treatment changes

The doctor adapts the schedule to your case and gives it to you in writing.

Reference goals

For most adults: A1C below 7%, blood pressure below 130/80 and LDL cholesterol according to your risk level. These are guidelines; your doctor sets your goals based on your age and other conditions.
